One thing I love talking about is how to incorporate essential oils into everyday life.........it was discovering the benefits of this that led to a complete career change for me and a love of essential oils that spans over 20 years.
I'm not an incredibly patient person - if I had to meditate for an hour to get results, it would never happen. So when I discovered that by inhaling a drop of a very calming essential oil beforehand (Frankincense works for me!) I was able to get into a deep relaxed state very quickly, I was hooked!
I love using essential oils throughout the day - even though I work with them every day - in fact there is never a day when I don't use them in some way or other. The wonderful thing about them is that you can choose what to use depending on how you feel or how you'd like to feel!
1. I keep an energising spray next to my bed and love spritzing a blend of Peppermint and Sicilian Lemon onto my pulse points and the space around me when I wake up - I keep a small bottle of this in my handbag too - for an afternoon pick me up.
2. A few drops of essential oils sprinkled onto the shower base before I step in is like having a mini spa treatment before I do anything else - Eucalyptus Oil works well for it's head and nose clearing properties! The combination of heat + steam + aroma is a beautiful treatment that takes a few minutes.
3. After showering, while skin is still slightly damp I massage my Daily Body Oil over my skin - this may sound time consuming but takes a couple of minutes - I love being able to choose my 'blend for the day' - this morning I mixed 3 drops of Pink Grapefruit, Brazilian Orange and Sicilian Lime into 5mls of pure Jojoba Oil. Starting at my feet I work upwards in long flowing strokes - the result is beautiful soft skin and a mood boosting aroma to help you get through the day. I've been doing this every day for over 20 years - what I love is that it means I get to spend a few minutes on myself before taking care of everything else. Something we all need to do more of.
4. I always keep an essential oil in my bag that I can use if I need to throughout the day - 1 drop on a tissue is a quick, easy, portable way to use essential oils - Bergamot Oil is a great one to use for nervous anxiety and that 'butterflies in the stomach' feeling - if I'm giving a presentation I always keep this one handy.
5. If I'm working at something where I need to focus - I use a drop of Rosemary Oil on a tissue and use that to inhale or add a 'study' blend of Rosemary, Lemon, Peppermint - 2 drops each in a vapouriser to keep me going.
6. If I find myself in a stressful situation during the day - I always use a warm Lavender compress for a bit of instant calm - Lavender compresses can be used on the shoulder area but I also love to use them on the face - 2-3 drops in a bowl of warm water - I swish a clean facecloth in there and then squeeze out the excess water and hold over my face (eyes closed) for a count of 10 - inhaling the aroma deeply and then repeat. I find this is one of the quickest ways to de-stress and give myself a moment in the middle of a hectic day.
7. Sleep Drops on my pillow is the last thing I do before going to sleep - 1-2 drops of Lavender on a tissue tucked under my pillow works well, Marjoram is excellent for long term insomnia.
Essential Oils are extremely potent and should always be used with care and kept out of the reach of children and never used internally. If you are pregnant or undergoing any medical treatment, please seek advice from a qualified health professional before using essential oils.
